    That is some impressive flying, Trying to imagine the WHY.

    Looks like there must have been something wrong with the winch or hoist and they could not retract it.

    OR

    There was no winch. Perhaps they attached that rope or cable so they could haul something to a work site. Maybe they hauled the 'copter to that site so they did not have to fly with it dangling in the air the whole time.

    Also appears to be a mountainous area, not sure what kind of 'copter that is, but many cannot fly much over 8,500-10,200 feet. Some can go much higher, but many cannot. Maybe they had to haul it there to get to the other side of the mountain?

    Well maybe not, if that is Bolder Creek, CA, elevation is only 479 ft according to wiki

    The truck likely gets far better fuel economy, might just be a matter of economics.
