I am an 80 year old retired engineer. My interests are making tools, casting, sailing and hill walking.
As. teenager with my first motor bike I found if I needed to do any repairs, it paid me to make or buy the tools to do it. Since then I have been a " Toolaholic". I have made an electric furnace, built a Gingery shaper, and Mill. also two power hacksaws. Built several boats. I have a Myford ML7 Lathe.

The gauge consists of 1/4"sheet of Perspex mounted exactly perpendicular to the lathe bed, with a fine scribed line on each side at center height. Looking down on the mirror, mounted ar 45 degrees, move your head until both lines coincide. If the lathe tool is brought up close to the line, You can see through the Perspex the center height relative to the tool edge..
