    New Guy to Forums

I'm a newbie to these forums. My three primary interests are: 1) just about anything automotive; 2)home machining; and 3) metalworking/metal shaping. Extending those just a bit, I'm interesting in the design and fabrication of velomobiles (a future project) and airplanes too.

I have a 7x10 mini-lathe, a mini-mill, metal-cutting bandsaw, welder (2 actually, MIG & TIG), drill press and a number of other power and hand tools. I'm at the point where I would like to extend the utility of my tools by making accessories for them, or in making new tools entirely on my own.

    Cheers,

    Lonnie

Hi Lonnie - welcome to HomemadeTools.net

Sounds like you'll fit in nicely here with that set of interests.

Do you fly? Both myself and the other admin are pilots, although I'm a rookie and he's an instructor and RV builder.

    Hi Lonnie,

    Welcome!

Velomobiles - there's something one doesn't see every day! Post some pics once you get started on the project…

We're all gearheads here - cars, bikes, planes, etc. - anything mechanical!

What's next on your build list?

    Ken

I don't fly any more, Jon. Marriage and a family imposed other priorities on me [LOL]. I still do think about a hang glider or ultralight from time to time, but that's about it.

    Cheers,

    Lonnie

    Hi Ken,

The velomobile is my next build. But, first, I need to finish my current project. It's a one-off, tube-framed, sports car based on the general architecture of the Lotus 7/Caterham 7 line of cars. Mine will feature the running gear out of a '94 Mustang, however.

Below are some older photos. I'm further along now with the driveline installed, but suspension details still being developed.

    Thanks for asking,

    Lonnie

    Hey Lonnie,

Very cool! I've never driven one, but my friends who own a Lotus 7 (or one of the clones) each swear by it. You're going to love the thing, no doubt.

Here's a pic of my latest build out and about on a recent run. I still need to put the windshield wiper on there at some point. It's not as though it ever rains in Florida…

Kewl car, Ken. It must be fun!

No wiper? Doesn't that just mean you have to drive faster in the rain so as to get those drops off the windshield?

    @DIYer
Thanks for the welcome. I hope that eventually I will have some things to add here.

    Cheers,
