Hi. Im Karl, from Czech Republic Europe. Im blacksmith and metalworker. I made myself a homemade forging press. Someone (named homemade tools :) ) on my youtube channel asked me to post the video about the press here.

Very nice. I really like the quick-change die set-up. What are some of your reasons for using 2 cylinders rather than a bigger, single cylinder?
One big cylinder is the best way to go. Simpler hydraulic system, simpler ram guides and so on. At the time I was building the press, there were no cylinders big enough in my area. So I went with two smaller ones. I bought them online, and when they arrived, i realized one is like 12mm (half an inch) shorter and little big thicker. I caused me a lot of trouble with the ram twisting and stuff. (one cylinder is going a little slower, and is couple tons stronger) Nightmare, pure nightmare. I was thinking about cutting the whole press to pieces and starting over with one cylinder, but they are hard to find.

Interesting build with all the pieces there and like the turnbuckles idea. Unique with the tire and rim crank/flywheel. Are you friction driving the wheel with the motor? Thanks for sharing!

Agree and that was the reason for my question. I thought parts availability or other factors in your area might enter into your decision and was curious. With your skill I would think you could weld up you own cylinder. Some heavy walled tubing, 148mm (5.826") diameter would give you 40 tons at 200bar (3,000 psi). With the slow speed I doubt it would have to be precision honed tubing. It would have to be clean and smooth but a good piston fit and some good seals should work fine. Wall thickness is critical as well as good weld prep and penetration. But these things are not all that difficult to figure out and might be fun to research.Quote:

Hi, I found some pictures from the build. You can clearly see how naive I was when building a frame. I had to weld loads of braces onto that thing to keep it from twisting.

Hello Karl, I spent 26 years in a factory that built hydraulic pumps so I have been involved with hydraulics for a while. You have built a very nice machine. Very nice upper and lower mechanical limits.
Very impressive, especially how rapidly the piston retracts.
