A bar holder is more than just handy with small cutters. Just last week I was forced into finagling (aka shimming) a small bar in a exceedingly large QCTH, of 16" lathe, not just boring 1.000+.0005/-.0000 "Ø, but along with an O-ring groove.
For the lack of such a holder/ bushing at least 2 hours lost.
While I'm on about it, making holder or bushing off-center adds 2 useful features. This is aid to centerline adjustment, also with surface grinder and spin jig, you can make bars out of broken HSS endmills, taps etc. That puts clearance on the cutting side, instead of concentric. If you incline spin jig......tapered bars on demand!
