Just a a question. I got a router speed controller for an air compressor I modified to use for a pneumatic hand engraver. On the instructions it says it will not work on brushless motors (the compressor is not brushless).

With a brushless electric motor, we need a starting capacitor. In this situation, "the voltage regulator (Dimmer switch) will not drive the electric motor" Because I do video tutorials on how to wire an electric motor, I did tests with a dimmer switch. the electric motor is running (the speed is not controlled and there is no power).
While with a brush electric motor this is not a problem.

Two types of brushless motors. The induction motors are the original ones, but the name has been pretty much co-opted to mean solid state controlled motors. So, when you see the term you need a bit more info.
