Inside a fire truck in the Carr Wildfire - video

Inside a fire truck in the Carr Wildfire. This makes me wonder about fire truck construction. Very powerful A/C? Ember filters on the air intakes?

Scared yet? Here's a video of a fire whirl; news prefers to refer to this phenomenon as a "Firenado":

Rural brigade trucks in Australia are fitted with a sprinkler system so if they get trapped they can huddle under reflective blankets in the cabin. Sadly this was a response to a really big bushfire situation across south eastern Australia in 1983 that in one instance saw 12 members of a brigade caught out by a wind change and they all perished in their truck.

My Gratitude and hat to heart to all first responder's. A few were good friends over the years...one was a smoke jumper out of AZ & CO. We've had our share here in CA this last year or 3. Unfortunately we lost 4 the other day in either the Carr or the the Combo fire near Clear Lake. No details of whom or how yet but by their grace thousands of homes, people and animals have been saved. Grace to their families and loved ones.

We had a small one on the other side of the hill across our small valley by a smaller vineyard, yesterday. Was awed by the tanker pilot skills and the Skymaster spotter. Couldn't see the ground crew but were prepping for evac if it made it to the top of the hill. It was out in about an hour thank god for them!! I cheered and waved to them as they flew over our back deck heading for the SR airport a few miles away...knowing they would head out again shortly!

I would hope that they have the very best protection available in all their work and if anyone pisses and moans over cost...send them out in one of these big fires. I can't imagine a 24 hour shift in 110° ambient and who knows how hot in the thick of it. 800°-1200°? melts aluminum! The pictures/videos we've seen over a few years starts to give normal people a clue about being in and working in a Maelstrom of terror.

I like fire whirl better Jon. It's not necessarily associated with mayhem and total destruction for a 3 day news cycle to invoke widespread panic and fear, instead of basic physics and fluid dynamics. Although Tornado's and Fire Whirls are physics and fluid dynamics natures power is something to behold and never forget. I was terrified as a kid when a big tornado bounced over our house in Alabama...The noise was deafening, the ground shook and it was black as the inside of a cow for a few minutes...like the world was ending. I imagine Fire Fighters experience with Fire Whirls is similar to mine.

That looks to be the size of a real tornado based on the size of the houses below. Nature creating it's own weather system. Is that the Carr fire again?

Yes, I believe so: Redding. And yes, this one was estimated at 1,000 feet across.

How about giving up the $70B + $150m/yr (for a mere 3% increase in effectivity) for the great wall of USA for the first responders and equipment and the BLM to sufficiently manage this great land instead.

Or perhaps use some of Boston Dynamics Robots for this work instead of Darpa, Jeiddo, DoD, Rapid equipment force, etc. Not that I'm against research to help the troops but it's feeling like there are more important fish to fry...pun intended. I did like the Sand Flea...very impressive. Rant Off.

The funny thing is that I remember being Germany and how clean the forests were and going on a Volksmarch (not necessarily a sport) to help clear the undergrowth. Most of what we are seeing is preventable and manageable...with proper resources and The CM word "Conscious Management".
