Reminds me of one of our former senior researchers, now 'retired' but still active, he told the story of beam path idiocy involving people moving mirrors and stuff live in a multi-megawatt facility, he cured most of them by hanging half a pig in the beam path and blowing large holes through it with each beam 'shot'...

I have a screwdriver that I used to test a laser I was adjusting, has a hole blown halfway through the large plastic handle. Good conversation item for people new to lasers.
