One reason I would be difficult to keep the "screw" blades sharp. Chippers take a lot of abuse. Dirt and grit, etc goes through them, they need a lot of maintenance, I keep 2 sets of blades for mine so I can swap them in the field if I need to!!!

That makes sense, though I’d think that would be mitigated by using a tool steel cutting edge or hard-facing weld rods to form the cutting edges. Maybe using harrowing disks instead of mild steel plate.
