    mini lathe indexing system

    Hello again guys,

Been thinking about doing this for some time. I'm always on the lookout for stuff to make stuff out of, well one day I picked up 2 brother industrial sewing machines and a motor. The machines yielded some nice bits and pieces but the motor sat under my feet for about 3 months. I offered it to several friends but no-one wanted it, got bored one day and decided to strip it. To my surprise it had a clutch in it, went Hmm then chucked it next to my lathe for another 2 months I recon. It was just the right size for an indexing wheel, I mean it was already round and had a hole in the middle, bonus. The hole fits exactly over the lathe spindle, sits flat and centered, no modifying required, talk about arsie (aussie slang for dumb luck) so heres the result.

    Ingenious design and workmanship, Steveohdee!
Great use of those "It'll come in handy" pieces just lying around in the shop, the odd bits that you just can't throw away.
Enuff of those all over the place, then luck suddenly hits you, and all those pieces comes together organically, almost by themselves...

Providence hasn't yet gifted me with your "Magic Wand" engraving skills though, I'm having a hard time even holding a stamp with all my thumbs.

    Cheers, Johan

Haha thanks Johan, the other day I had a hard rubbish pickup booked & when I tossed a couple of boxes out had to go thru them again just to be sure I won't need any of it, rather difficult. Cheers mate

Really great use of salvaged parts Stevohdee. The freehand engraving is superb, I have tried it a few times and mine generally looks like a horses arse.

LOL thanks Tony, many people try to use the engraving hand piece like they write. Have a close look at my hand in the video. The thumb and first finger grips the machine and the last 3 fingers are flat and act like an anchor to oppose the force of the burr. It's a bit awkward and somewhat unnatural @ first but that's the trick, cheers

Your engraving was unbelievable, than again your time spent with the hack saw was something else.
