Those appear to be 2x6 joists. I'm guessing your using 16', and it looks like your splicing them by pairing with another one in the middle of each splice.
Are you using the nailer to attach the plywood to these joists? I've always used construction screws to assemble scaffolding.
This photo was my house addition, where I tore the roof off and put a second floor on.
