    Its done more than you might think but not as regular as it was 3 or 4 decades ago. And not usually on a scale as has been done else where.
    The road where I lived when I was young was gravel for a long time then they finally paved it and made it a Farm to market road. I remember once when it was about half completed seeing a large 2 story house being moved along it. it was wide enough that the main beams were set as wide apart as the road was wide where it was paved meaning that half of the tires were run well off of the sides in the dirt. the Road was only about 7 miles long but it took almost a week to go from 1 end to the other because they had to build up the shoulders all along the way but we wound up with a much better FM road afterwards because of the wider shoulders
