I am a journeyman mechanic (both aircraft and automotive) and I am always on the lookout for interesting automotive tools to make my work easier or simpler.

I am currently looking for ideas or plans to build a low level, hydraulic, car scissor lift - Max 24 inches high and 3500 pounds. It would allow me to work around the lower part of vehicles on my roller seat - my knees don't work like they used to.

Hi nixrox - welcome to HomemadeTools.net

Interesting build; that would make that kind of work a lot more convenient. What kind of ideas or plans have you found so far?

I have only managed to find pictures of several different types. It seems that the average price for a new one is about $2000.00 here in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Almost all of them are in the 6000 pound vehicle weight range or higher. There does not appear to be any offered in the 3500 pound range. I specialize in Honda Civics and Accords and they only weigh 3200 max. I may eventually try my hand at designing and fabricating my own.

Welcome to the forums, nixrox! I tried looking around the Stands and Dollies category, but for a light car, an overbuilt motorcycle lift/stand might give you a few ideas.

    Hi nixrox,

    Welcome!

Lots of airplane and car guys around here. I like the sound of that lift, myself.

If you need any tips or pointers, post a note in our Help Me Build subforum and you're sure to receive some useful input.

    Ken
