There is a commercial product called "Stymie Lock" (https://www.stymielock.com/) which alllows many locks to a gate and prevents the issue of 'a cheap chain stretched across, and stupid users sometimes lock out other users by not putting their locks in proper series configuration'

Very well, built, I find it intuitive to use, and I've seen it on lots of shared sites, such as communications tower sites, water tower & tank sites (which often have radio communications equipment co-located) and such. FWIW, City of Raleigh, NC, has them on a lot of their sites.

The guy who invented it is in NC...

It's a pretty good invention, though the patent has expired. I would just copy the idea for my use, because at $350 for the base unit and $50 for additionals, I could build it from stuff in the inventory pile.



What is most surprising is that there are no useful images on the company site, had to go to the patent to get the above...
