I been working on my small lathe doing a few things to it I been wanting to do, I made a new tool post holder for it a while back along with a boring bar holder but never made a parting blade holder, until yesterday.
I had this 1/16” X 1/2" X 4 ½” HSS blade in the drawer that I thought would be about the perfect size for this little creature, so I sit down and did a little drawing and this is what I came up with, this parting tool holder has a tongue protruding out on the right side so it can be clamped in the tool post just like a tool bit, this is also how the boring bar holder is clamped, the parting tool holder is made from O-1 steel which is hardened and ground, the holder has a .055” Dp. X ½” Wd. Slot milled and ground at just the right height so the top of the parting blade is on center of the machines axis, it has a flat plate with six 4-40 flat head screws clamping the blade tightly in its seat.
Below you will find a few photos of the machining process and the tool installed in the lathe.
As always thanks for looking and happy machining.
