Acme taps are expensive. I just used 1/2x13 threaded rod for my jack screw. Max travel on my bandsaw vise is 6 inches. But when I am not using the screw I take it out. Sometimes I take the handle off too. It isn't in by a long winded thread. Have some fun, and make a speed jack screw.

Hello there pfred. I think I might just use that idea on my next vise.

    Cheers, Jr

That is a quite clever way to do it. Something like the speed nuts that I like to use on the depth stops on my drill presses.

I made one of those for my mill. I never used the stock nut on it. It took too long to turn it up and down. I use this speed nut all the time now. https://i.imgur.com/YKJTDTk.png
