Questions about the belt sander

Hello guys, i'm planning to make a belt sander with this high speed motor (5500 rpm) and my question is, Can i use this motor for the belt sander?

Hi The motor looks like a gear up to the posted speed ....I find 3600 rpm motor speed is best for me.. remove the gear drive and see if you have enough torque....If you want to grind metal you need horse power so I am not sure this motor is right for your application... hope this helps.
