Quick Shelves / Bin Racks

Hi Gang:

I've been making these slotted shelves for over 40 years and still use the first one made from discarded paneling.

I cut milk and anti-freeze jugs for drawers:

I have been using some 2 1/2 gallon water containers in a similar fashion.

Just think how many thousands of plastic jugs would stay out of the land fills if everyone would follow these examples. I also use quart oil bottles for parts such as nails screws etc. Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment.

We're just following examples set by our fathers and grandfathers. How many remember seeing baby food jars nailed to a 4X4 mounted to the overhead filled with nails, screws, etc?

Yes indeed, or going out with my grandpa to a pile of used boards in the barn to find one suitable to make a bird house. Then sorting through a wooden keg of old nails to find some the right size. Then learning to straighten them by tapping it with the bend facing up to straighten on an anvil. Getting scolded for hitting the anvil with the hammer to make it ring. Bending an old license plate for the roof.

Ha, and people think they are all being so environmentally conscious today when they roll their recycle bin to the street for pick up. Then they hop into their 400HP supper charged pick-up truck that has done no REAL work in its life to drive to the store for beer and ice.

Looks like you guys hit the nail right on the head, err maybe on the side of it???. LOL And talking about reusing items here is a dead ceiling fan repurposed into a ceiling light for the bedroom.

Just curious about the planer sitting down in lower left of picture. Would that happen to be a 12" delta planer?

Hello:

Yes it is a Delta Planer. Bought new in 1992, it still runs fine. I added Formica in and out feed tables. Small jobs I run it on the floor, larger jobs I set it up on the table saw.
