I see the usefulness as a time saver for assembly line work and a time eater for the individual who is only going to do a couple of hoses. by the time he can haul the thing out load it up with solution lube the hose ends he could have done like Metric Taper did. Then there is still the clean up and stowing it away when done.
I thought in a production setting that hoses are delivered for JIT assembly with silicone lube applied by the hose manufacturer. I'm with you, for one off this method would be problematic.
None of the other hoses had difficulties on my truck, I spent more time with the hose clamps, and I was using a nut driver, as you know how well you can drive a slotted screw driver while leaning over the engine.
Now taking real old hoses off is a totally different problem. And if they are on a true hose barb fitting, .....(the cussing in my mind has already started).
