    RAPID TAILSTOCK EJECTOR!

I would also like to contribute to the idea initially posted by xynudu and then by Retro Steam Tech. My version was made with a piece of nylon and a fridge magnet! This version protects the paint and prevents burrs from forming on the screw! Time required to manufacture: approximately 5 minutes!

Magnets are not good at compression efforts. Thus, it would be interesting to leave at least 1.0 mm clearance (see drawing) so that there is no direct contact with the tailstock. If you have it at home, a niodimium magnet would be more efficient than a fridge magnet, which also works...

    Uhmm, ok....
There are tailstocks without a slot for a drift key? Or, Morse Tapers vary so much, proper quill length is a mystery?
I cannot recall one instance retracting a quill didn't/ couldn't disengage a drill, center, sleeve, or chuck.
None the less, I like this non-injurious solution.
    Sincerely,

Thanks for the comments Toolmaker51! Because it is fast to manufacture with easy-to-find materials, you can prepare 2 or 3 ejectors in different lengths for later use. Works even with accessories that have no shoulder! It also works without disturbing your modifications!

Offering a suggestion; figuring how long to make your elector plug.

I'd insert the Morse Taper item in question VERY lightly, mark the shank where it enters quill, remove and set aside.
Retract quill 100%, then extend 2 or 3 turns. Measure the resulting depth from quill opening to bottom. Subtract depth from amount shown on Morse Taper item.
That reveals 'empty' space your plug is meant to fill.
Use of plastic is good, even very hard wood, anything non-ferrous.
    Sincerely,

Now that all the intelligent answers have been given...

If you want to eject it FAST, nothing like a bit of black powder and a match. Might want a good thick catcher in front of the item being ejected.

Good tip jdurand! If it still doesn't work, my suggestion would be to use this 100% reliable method: Man explodes cesspool trying to kill cockroaches!

Sure. Compared with attempts spearing them one by one with a lathe center.....
