Sure, there were other weapons which may have been a better choice. A 40mm grenade launcher mounted below the barrel of your rifle with a squad shot shell for instance. You could panic and select full auto and spray a whole magazine at the thing. When you are in a combat situation you use what is available try to keep your wits about you and do the best you can. The soldier hit the thing and lived to talk about it. Which is more than the guy walking with his hands in his pockets or the probable journalist shooting the video or himself would have done had he not managed to kill the drone. In combat there are only 2 outcomes either you live, or you die trying. It is not a spectator's sport

I had not considered that was a real combat situation. It looked to me like some guys playing around with big boy toys, rather than a real life and death combat situation. But, I have been wrong before.
