    Simple machinist's jack

I needed to support one end of an aluminum flat bar for drilling. Casting about the shop, I was able to quickly piece together a crude jack to fit the need. Nothing fancy, as the round stock was an off-cut from another tool I had made on the lathe. With the addition of a 5/16-18 bolt, nut and washer, and viola!

Because it was all stuff I had laying around, cost was zero (my favorite kind). And since it's all more or less scrap, I can modify it to my hearts content...

If you take your bolt over to the belt sander and sand the top smooth (grade marks and the "JH"), and the bolt will spin easier under a load as you level your work piece.
