The SNCASE SE. 100 was a fighter aircraft developed for the French Air Force. The Fall of France thwarted mass production and only one was produced.

Was the intent to crash German ME 109s by inducing paroxysms of uncontrollable laughter in the pilots?
There was a video game years ago (Air Pirates? Sky Pirates? Something like that) that had all sorts of weird aircraft designs; I think this was one of them...
In any case the 30's saw an explosion of weird aircraft designs like this.

The Citreon of the air. The french had a economy status of 5th for decades (China & India creeping up) & they got there by allowing this unit not to be built enmasse.LOL

As Marv says, that quote is rather epic. If one ever finds himself at an HES (killer threading features) or Cazeneuve (w-i-d-e bedways) lathe, or late Huron mill; I'll just say wow. One distinct feature they share is multiple clamping; more effective with less effort. Let's remember Mr. Vernier too, every time you interpret fine increments of measurement.
I don't fault the French. We have many French HMTer's too; posting great projects, displaying great skills, and broader interests than many of us.

I had the misfortune to rent a deux chevaux while consulting in Versailles. It took a while to realize that that umbrella handle sticking out of the dashboard was the shift lever.
And let us not forget the joy our WWI soldiers had when issued the infamous Chauchat machine gun.
But all is forgiven when you remember that they invented escargot tongs and the delicious preparation of that which you held with them.
24 hours later; picture of that plane bugging me. Was immediately reminded of something, yet puzzled me what it was.

France didn’t “fall”, they “capitulated” and joined the other side. That is why it was necessary for the allies to sink the French fleet in North Africa and France.
Sounds like SAAB , the only manufacturer who designed the body around the engineering and not vice versa. They nearly went broke as vehicles were so good they hardly sold spares then GM bought em out. End of story.Quote:

On the floorboard high and right from the gas pedal was a handle, which when pulled, disengaged the freewheeling, that is it engaged the wheels to the transaxle. Relief. On inducing laughter as a strategy I think this would qualify. Romney and Dymchurch miniature railway armoured in 1940 to protect the channel from invasion. I can just imagine German troops rolling around the beach in helpless laughter. All joking aside it does display the determination of a country to defend itself by any means. That might have been dialog of the meeting, with Axis on the horizon.
Doesn't sound so desperate to me, with a long coastline, limited technology and immediate need. Especially along higher elevation coastlines. A lot of range in what are certain to be Boyes antitank rifles.
Tiny moving targets are pretty good defense mechanism. Better say, than mis-located Axis batteries.
Always interesting, when tactics turn out to be just strategy.

Conceived by a dentist, the idea was to drop a non-explosive bat-filled canister which, after being slowed by a parachute, would disperse the bats, each of which was fitted with a tiny napalm charge. The bats would roost in the mostly wooden structures in Japan and cause widespread fires.
Actually, like the Panjandrum, it was a pretty good idea in concept. Much better targeting and wider deployment than possible with conventional bombing, it seemed perfect though the opinion of the bats was not tested.
Like Russian cosmo-mammals, and to their disdain, bats weren't represented by their local hall.

I have several 10 ft diameter reels made out of steel tubing. A friend of mine wants to convert my large A frame into the structure for a trebuchet and launch microwaves into the next county So I told him that I have a Schramm pneumatic tractor with a built in 300 CFM air compressor why not take that and a 500 gallon propane tank for compressed air storage a 10 inch butterfly valve and a 40 ft long stick of 8" pipe and make an air cannon. we could turn the reels into Panjandrums but use compressed air and water as the propulsion launch the microwaves at the Panjandrums from the trebuchet and try to shoot them out of the air with pumpkins from the air cannon I have a field large enough to do this in and the proceeds from the ticket sales might eventually pay for my concrete slab for my shop.
the bad thing about building all of those pieces of junk is it would diminish my supply of useable materials to nothing But I think it could be fun.

For a theatrical production my wife and I built an air canon for the large confetti (something like 1/2" x 2"). It had quick-change barrels so we didn't have to take time to ram a new load. When I was first testing it I put in a single package of the confetti and only put a little air in it. Pushed the fire button and knocked a hole in a door at the end of the hall. On stage with a LOT of packages in it the confetti went up around 30 feet, cleared the stage and landed in the audience. Now THAT's a scatter gun!
