    I am curious how you can say it does not "look" like HDPE? You can get HDPE pipe at least 5' (1.54m) in diameter. I have done that very same same process with both HDPE and PVC, although not that large. HDPE is much wider band of temperature for forming than PVC. HDPE will stretch much further with less force and no damage to the actual structure of the material than with PVC.

    HDPE is typically joined by the fusion butt welding process, but slip fit bell end connections are also used for some applications.

    HDPE is much more chemical resistant than PVC and is used to many industrial applications.
