While working at the caterpillar rebuild shop, we often shipped machines out by rail or overseas, with equipment that was over as certain height we had to remove the Erops and sometimes the cabs, exhaust stacks and once even the safety railings. Then we welded all loose items in the buckets to prevent loss or theft. When it went out by rail destined for central America steel straps had to be shaped and welded over doors or compartments. in a way that allowed partial opening for inspections but not leaving enough room to remove components such as batteries or anything from the engine compartment.
