    Threading die starting method

When cutting male threads, the first few threads are not well formed until the die get a good grip on the part to pull itself forward.

I use this method to cut good threads from the beginning.

Mount a headless bolt of the proper thread in the tail stock chuck. Mount the part to be threaded in the lathe chuck.
Place the die stock on the part and thread the die onto the bolt mounted in the tail stock.

Then press the bolt against the part

Slide the die stock onto the die and thread the die off of the bolt and onto the part.

Remove the well threaded part from the chuck.
