Maybe to just give them enough adhesion to hold them in place until the roller is ran over them to fully set them.

When I have to paint I use KBS products
If the tiles are very precise and the consistency of the tile adhesive is good and has been applied well to the floor with a notched trowel, then this light pressure is sufficient. A good idea
