20 years old and abusing the boss's equipment on a county road in SW Colo 50 years ago, I almost flipped the rig. That trailer fishtailed like a windshield wiper. Gollee! said Gomer. Only stopping it v-e-r-y slowly averted disaster. He never knew a thing.

One would be amazed at how many trailer towers don't know this.

I've also had it happen. I'm told by folks who professed to know more about it than I, that the way to stop it is to accelerate like hell, then stop.
I can tell you that it takes more courage than I have to do that.

Back in the day before I knew any better, I listened to one of those people who said go faster. Borrowed Suburban, borrowed trailer picking up my latest project car going down a mountain road. Still don't know how I did not flip the whole rig or even managed to stay on the road. Much wiser (I think) and much more aware of proper trailer weight distribution. Another one of the stories that make you wonder how you survived being young and dumb.
