unlike another thread that featured a nova half track and skies this vehicle would actually work in the snow note how long the front skis are and the low spindle height of the front end.

The tread on the tracks would be orientated much like Ag tires on tractors back in the 60's some farmers would turn their drive tires around for differing types of soils for sandy loose soils they had them turned 1 way but for muddy clay soils they turned them the other way It was thought that by doing this their traction was improved and helped to keep them from sinking into the soils with the wider larger diameter tires of today no-one does that any more

Most modern tractors with chevron tire treads have the chevrons oriented such that they point to the rear when they are in contact with the ground. This is also true for the John Deere tractors with tread belts in place of wheels...

While it seems the wrong way round to me, I have to assume that a tractor maker of renown such as JD knows what it's doing.

That would seem to indicate that the tracks shown in the museum picture are mounted the wrong way round while those in the B&W photo are properly oriented.

Of course. Most records of communist era reveal one class had it better than remaining populous. Who'd expect Lenin only have one Rolls-Royce?
One for bad weather. Another for winter.
One more with tracks on correctly; when conditions demand.
