Imagine a more primitive people, staring off into the distance at the volcano, and the lightning starts...
The mountain gods were referred to in Native American legends of volcanoes. For example, in stories about Mt. Lassen and Mt Shasta, where there was fire coming out, the gods in the mountain were putting logs on the fire and that made sparks and fire flow from the mountain.
