Hello
I am a keen woodturner and enjoy building jigs for use on the lathe and associated equipment such as bench grinder and bandsaw. I have found some great ideas on this site and am also looking forward to contributing.
Cheers
Tim
Tim: Thanks for the post....I'm a woodturner too, and am interested to know more about the jigs and woodturning tools you've made and to see how you made them.... Right now, I'm interested in building a slow turner for applying finish while still on the chuck (transfer chuck with piece on it to the slow turner first), so that the finish doesn't drip as it turns. My fellow turners say an optimum speed is 19RPM. Some have used a rotisserie motor, but mine only works at 1.5 RPM. Not sure how to gear it to go up to the 19 or 20 RPM needed if you have any ideas on that. Any other ideas you have would be welcome too, even if not related to this project.
Thanks!

Hi Doug, many thanks for responding. I'm afraid I can't help with your slow turning, but here is a picture of a wood-turner's sandpaper dispenser which both organises the sandpaper so it is easy to locate a particular grit grade, and also dispenses it via tear off strip-plates. More info HERE

Tim: I like that plan....definitely worth considering, as it would speed up (and neaten) things considerably. I also use disks for my power sander pad and sheets or disks of the Mirka or Abranet screen which I'm currently storing in a tool organizer from Home Depot. It's got enough 3 1/2" bins so I can have one bin per grit with a couple left over for miscellaneous, used pieces or 3M-type non-metal pads, so it works well for that, but roll storage has eluded me until your suggested method... Thanks again!
Doug
