Woodturning scraping tools

Here are some woodturning scaping tools.

You don't see the handle, but obviously, there is one for each :)

The blades are HSS made out of pieces of jointer blades.
I cut them with the dremel with a high speed cutting disc, that goes pretty well.
I have plenty of different shapes, the one at the top is for scaping the bottom of bowls (you need to hold the handle very strongly, they are prone to engage with the wood)

The one at the bottom is specially shaped for making captured rings or finger rings.

It's not clearly seen here, but as I don't know how to drill in HSS (or exactly I don't want to bother with that), the screw is not inserted in a hole, but in an open groove. The result is the same, and you don't even need to un screw completely to change the blade (for the lazy man).

When you can and if you can post a video, I love to see artists working, I have a small wood lathe here in my living room, waiting for a right place for me to take some work.

With a mini lathe, you can enjoy doing lots of pretty things !
One of my favourite things to make are pencils.
I don't like to use regular pencil kits, my real challenge is to make kitless pencils, re-using standard commercial pencils, hacking the mechanisms and making a new wooden pen with it.

One can sometimes see me in pen selling stores unscrewing and taking pens apart to see if I can do something with them ...

There's no better builder "accessory" than an understanding wife. Mine has lived with airplane parts all over the house and has now sacrificed her guest room (and parts of the living and dining rooms) to car parts for the duration of my current project. She's a saint - just ask her! :D

Joke is that the lathe has over twenty years and never been used and I ended up putting as ornaments. (I was lucky to find him abandoned)

This one was made from nice curly olive wood from Jerusalem (That's true, I have a certificate :) )
and I liked the similarity of the figures with the ones from the paua abalone ..
So now, you have to practice and use your lathe !

Yes Christophe, I have to work on my wood lathe. But I still have no suitable place.
I already have a few woodwork also want to produce some pens wood to be turned transforms and shows her beauty.

To drill HSS, I use carbide bit for drilling cement, lubricant and a slow speed. I use cement bits because they are simple, cheap and easy enough to sharpen. You need a sharp bit but diamond grit will do a good job on carbide. Here is an example of a fellow drilling HSS.

I did this one time with a drill made for glass and ceramic tiles, it did the job, but it's not easy.
I'm curious to see what shape you give to your cement drill bits to tackle the HSS ?
I suppose you don't leave that dull shape like for stone or concrete ?

I don't do it a lot, but when I do, at most I just refine the edge. The high angle edge is stronger. As it is, when drilling small holes chatter can destroy a bit quickly. So I tend to go with really cheap concrete bits. The only time I have needed a precise and smooth hole, was making a HSS folding knife from a Harbor freight blank.

I never did make a precise smooth hole. I ended up pounding a brass rod into a larger hole and then putting a precise smooth hole in that. :)

Hi Chris,
I have read a lot of your posts over the past several moths and have really enjoyed them. Great job and thanks so must for taking the time to share them.
I do have one sorta off-topic question. How can a person get a little jumping and throwing his arms up in the air smilet like you have? I just can't stop laughing when I see it.
