This is my version from the very simple but still working bench grinder to belt sander build.
Takes about an hour to make.

Used 2.9$ bearings all other was surplus or scrap.

Simple improvements. Bigger pulley for higher speed and belt tensioner. Still without welds or lathe. More info coming later.

Very nice conversion. I think an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel is one of the most useful tools ever created.
Though it's a non-standard practice I wonder if the belt grinder might be better with the tension arm and roller on the bottom side so that the backing platen isn't lost on the grinding side. It seems like a rigid enough design that the tensioner could work on the power side of the belt.
Tensioner is symmetrical, so it can be placed to bottom side too.Quote:

Because i will make a stand for it, and tilt grinder 90 degrees.
Then i can use both sides of the belt. Straight surface, and also those both curved spots on wheels, to shape / finish curved pieces.

Also, i will tilt grind stone mount 90 degrees, and replace old stone with bigger and finer grade stone.
What do you think about that?
It's standard engineering practice to put a tension roller on the portion of the belt loop opposite the portion that's pulled by the motor, but like I said your tensioner looks rigid enough that I don't think it matters. I like to have a platen under a belt to prevent it from being deflected too much and rounding the apex of an edge. This is a well done conversion and if my grinder had enough guts I'd be doing it to mine.

Tilted the head. I had to relocate two mounting holes, it wasn't made symmetrical as i hoped. But that wasn't a problem.

Because new stone is heavier than original one.
I decided to add extra bearings to support it, to the left side.
Idea seems to work, now i just need to finish the stand and workpiece rests.
