Elevating motor scraper.

I guess I do not understand the title. The scraper blade is lifted when the hopper gets full. Is that what is elevating?

I believe the term, "elevating", refers to the conveyor system that is lifting the soil up and piling it higher in the shovel. Other shovels do not have that item and rely on the shovel scraper blade scooping and filling the shovel. I think.

The chain paddles are called the elevators Not all scrapers have them but the ones that do usually have deeper bowls We have even added as much as 24" in height to the larger twin engine elevating scrapers

We called them paddle scrapers. Usually just single engine and smaller than the big twin engine units. They definitely have their place.

The elevating scraper was my father's concept and he received several patents while developing it for Clark equipment. He had first presented the idea to Cat where he was working at the time with out interest. Hence we moved to Michigan.

Ah I get it now. I have worked on a couple of those. Always heard paddle scraper. I should have made that connection.

Prior to the elevating scraper, the scraper had a knife edge and had to be pushed by a dozer. Man and machine eliminated.

They still had the cutting edge on the belly of the bowl and at times still required a dozer to push them. Many even have teeth on the cutting edge, these work especially well when scraping to break up heavy clays and hard pan like caliche. Scrapers also work better after a dozer had gone through with a multi shank scar fire ripper.
