hay dolly hook

Someone took the hook off of my neighbor's hay dolly. so I cut up one of the hose reels I had then reduced the diameter in my hydraulic roll to match the size of the dolly.

then I sprayed the rust blast on it and wrapped it in plastic to slow the evaporation

this morning I removed the plastic rubbed off the loose material then painted it with old equipment yellow by KBS

Looks like the railroad is missing 8 spikes.

I don't see this sort of round bale moving equipment here in Iowa. Do you back this trailer into the bale to load it?

The Amish in IA have been using these pulled by horses for years. The first one I saw was around Bloomfield, IA back about 1985

The rear hoop was a little different, but they hooked the horses, when to the hay, dropped the rear door, backed the horses up to the bale and the door caught under the bale raising the axle off the grown, then dropped a rod mounded to the front, with a hook on the end into the back side of the bale. Then drive the horses forward, the wheels drop to the ground and the bale moves up and forward over the axle. Then the could drive the out fit to where ever and unload the bale.

With this particular dolly what you do is back up to the bale activate the electric brakes then back up more until the half loop shaped frame is against the bale then flip the hook downthis will hold the bale in the frame while you pull forward with the brakes still holding until the bale comes over center and is fully seated in the frame for unloading just flip the hook up set the brakes and back up the bale will roll out then release the brakes and drive off to get another bale if that is what you are doing
