Beautiful wood. My Djembe from Burkina Faso is made from it I believe, for its resonant properties. Personally I would put some kind of insulator on it with thin walls and for sake of ease, use white/black Delrin (Acetyl). Perhaps 2 top hat types per, inside and out...easy enough to make. Since you are likely only pushing <100W it would probably be fine through the wood. It's old enough and dry enough I would think after 25yrs of acclimatizing, but there may be a certain resistance across it, which you could measure with an Ohm Meter. Safer than sorry is my motto.
