That's not what I'm chasing. I was a rich man before yesterday.
Now all I have got is a cheque and a pickup truck.
I left my farm on the freeway.

They're busy building airports on the south side
Silicon chip factory on the east.
And the big road's pushing through along the valley floor.
Hot machine pouring six lanes at the very least.

Now all I have left is a broken-down pickup truck.
Looks like my farm is a freeway.

They forgot they told us what this old land was for.
Grow two tons the acre, boy, between the stones.
This was no Southfork, it was no Ponderosa.
But it was the place that I called home.

And what do I want with a million dollars and a pickup truck?
When I left my farm under the freeway.
Crest of a Knave is a highly underrated album for sure! Farm on the Freeway is a great song and perfect fit for the topic - nicely done!

Have to agree with that song, what good is the million dollars without the land where I belong. Could use the money to buy a new combine thrashing machine. Now there is no land on which to sow, and nothings going to grow nice and green.
A million bucks you say. Well I say phooey, I could have made that by the fall if you hadn't tripled the price of fertilizer, diesel and all. Land is for growing crops, raising cattle, or sheep, not for some rich man's hotel in which to sleep.
A million bucks you say, I could have made that mining the minerals you seek. then reclaimed the land and grown hay. to raise the cattle who's steaks you love to eat.

I quite agree, as this tattoo demonstrates.

I’ve corrected the selling, but I’ll explain the error. No, it wasn’t autocorrect this time.

I had a boss who was explaining something that I don’t recall to a customer, and used the phrase “intimate domain”. The Hurculean effort to keep a straight face may have caused permanent muscle damage in the face of who heard the exchange. I had to leave the room. Ever since then whenever the topic of eminent domain comes up I automatically revert to “intimate domain”.

It’s blue, with red and white accents, though the white ink is tough to see after two score and one year. (I got it in October 2001). The black is just the outline. It’s from the back cover of the Crest of a Knave vinyl LP. The album cover is parchment-colored, much like my leg.
