    I don’t understand. They had plenty of warning about the hurricane heading their way so why didn’t they take the crane down. I know it’s not easy or cheap to disassemble a crane like that but did they really think it would survive a hurricane?

    Construction manager waited too long to see if he needed to spend the money and time to disassemble would be my guess.
    If you can't make it precise make it adjustable.

    It wasn't even that strong of a storm when it hit Nova Scotia! Insurance should not pay if they took the cheap out to not secure the crane.

    Other than the mobile mounted self erecting tower cranes. Some of those cranes can take weeks to safely lower their height by very much.
    Other than just dogging them off many are nearly impossible to do much in the way of securing for a possible Omni directional wind
    Note another crane escaped unscathed.
