I made a couple of improvements to my aging 4x6 import band saw. I got tired of cranking on the vise handle, and welded a 1/2" drive socket to the hub. I can still crank it, but my impact driver will open or close it in seconds.
Second, I made a new vise out of angle iron, and installed a lead screw pirated from an old valve spring compressor. The lead screw can be adjusted to help clamp short stock that would not ordinarily be held securely in the vise.
