Incredibly cheap and you can do black masking with white inlay.

    Hi,
I just received the new scales, I ordered due to wrong marking and changed them at my lathe.

Nonius: A delightful little word with great history.

Also a great word for Scrabble, and other esoteric language games.

Many thanks for the idea...obviously this works on other lathes which have identical radii ( from pivot to scale )...what are the maths behind these calculations ...how was the Vernier established?

Well the calculations are very simple, just calulate the perimeter by PHI and then draw a line with that length, which you have to devide it by 360 to receive the distance from one mark to the next, which gives you a ruler for the diameter for the circle in degrees. Next draw a line from the center a line fro the over the radius an arrange this line from the center by 360 parts, so you receive a division of 360 by 1°. Draw a second circle which is larger tha the first one, now you can shorten the lines from the center to the first circuit, next shorten the overhanging lines to the second circle. This way you receive a ring with 360 short lines arranged along the circle.
For more Information for calculating you can check at Wikipedia homepage.
