All lathe jobs require the set-up of cutting tools of varying geometry to produce the intended part. Often, tools are manually changed one-at-a-time, until the job is finished, “only to be repeated again”, for the next part. As you can see, a fair amount of time can be expended in the tool set-up process. Many of these tool changes can be eliminated by the use of a “four place” Quick Change Turret Tool Post. Four Quick Change Tool Holders can be mounted simultaneously in the Turret Tool Post, which brings one tool after another into exact working position as required, thus greatly speeding up consecutive operations where a large number of identical pieces must be made. Even for “one-of-a-kind” jobs it can be more practical to just walk up to the lathe and begin machining with tools that remain set-up in the tool post turret. Several Quick Change Tool Holders could be kept on hand with special lathe tools mounted in them, which can be interchanged onto the tool post in a moment’s notice. The Quick Change Turret Tool Post Turret described herein is the result of several generations of prototypes which has culminated in a design characterized by absolute repeat-ability, a rock solid tool holding system and construction well suited to the hobby machinist as well as the seasoned professional.
