That is a good trick, BUT after you remove the hub like that, make sure you replace the bearings or you will be back there again.

Agreed. But usually the main reason for removing the hub is the bearings, but instead of using a slapjack hammer a puller with a center spindle bolt works better and not nearly so destructive on your body. Sometimes slid hammers are your only option I use mine quite frequently never tried wrapping a towel around it though to increase my force.
