    How It's Made: Fake Burgers

I almost accidentally ordered one of these last time I went through the Burger King drivethrough. I thought "Impossible Burger" meant that it was piled impossibly high with extra fixins'.

I'm not fundamentally opposed to such a thing, but I think one bite would've been plenty, just to say that I had tried it.

Impossible takes like feet, but Beyond is good. It's not convincing as beef, but it is good. Beyond's spicy breakfast sausage tastes like more like turkey sausage than beef/pork, but it is very good with eggs and orange juice.

That's actually the only thing I'll eat at A&W. Way better than their meat burgers. I don't have moral reservations either way and regularly eat meat burgers, but just on blind taste test for me the Beyond Burger wins hands down over their meat burgers. I think they're absolutely loaded with salt though. Probably not exactly good for you to eat the things on a regular basis. They're softer and almost a little bit... soggy? I dunno. But man are they tasty.

I cook them at home, and you can make them cook up more firmly, and even crispy around the edges like real beef. Just a wee bit of oil in a cast iron pan, high heat for a minute on both sides, then lower the heat before the oil starts to burn. Before it firms up mash the center a bit to make it slightly concave, and it’ll cook more evenly (this is the same as with any ground meat, but more noticeable because the proton bonds aren’t as strong or something).
I save the crumbles from Dot’s pretzels to season my Beyond burgers. If you don’t know what Dot’s pretzels then climb out from under that rock and try ‘em.

Everyone has different tastes, but to me this is a pretzel

Everything else is potential trail mix. The wife bought a bag of Dots original flavor one time while we were on a road trip. She liked them but to me they were no more and no less than a crunchy snack, what I mean to say is they are good just not my bag, I'd rather munch on BBQ flavored corn chips.
These are good though but don't do like I did and eat the whole chip at once unless you are extremely well conditioned to white hot fire. Even I will never do that again.

I wonder how that swarth patty would taste if it were battered, deep fried, and a little spice were added to it? Probably too crunchy for my old teeth.

To me it looks hypocritical, they want it to look like meat but actually not meat. They want to be like everyone else but not just like everyone else. I dearly love vegetables but also like dead cow, pigs and chicken...oh, fish stuff too

The idea is to give folks an option for burgers. Some folks can't eat real meat, other don't want to. It's no different than drinking American beer instead of real beer.
