I used an oak tree in front of our house to pull out an indented front end on my car. Had a neighbor worried the tree would fall over. Um, no. The car would give out long before the tree noticed the load.

Any Oak tree much larger than a 5 inch sapling can withstand abuses you can not imagine. just wrap something around them to protect against cutting into the bark and place it as low to the ground as possible, and you'll break a 3/8" winch line before you will hurt the tree
