If someone, while parking, pressed a bit too hard against the rear bumper (remember bumpers?) of one's VW bug, it would bend in until it blocked the cover of the engine compartment making it impossible to open. The usual fix was a rope loop through the bumper and around a utility pole, then whip that little 40+ HP engine and strain the bumper out to proper shape.

I did have one concerned older lady who worried very vocally that I was going to pull the pole down and cut off her electricity.

She couldn't see the advantages of power pole down! She would have a free Phyllis Diller hair doo.

That removal of the rusted part rear end body reminds me of an old ad, we had here, for a subaru brumby.
