In South Australia something like 90 odd percent of stuff with deposits get returned. We get 10 cents per can/bottle but only in this state.

Here the people who pick up the curbside recycling get paid that deposit refund for any cans/bottles they pick up...even if the bar codes are wrong or can't be read.

Hey Albert, I'm in South Australia too (Golden Grove) and the local depot accepts cans crushed any way you choose.
I fill a Pickle barrel with crushed cans. Holds around 800 ($80 worth).
You need to find a more accommodating recycling centre.
    Cheers

Hey WorkerB I'm in Mount Gambier about 500 km from Adelaide. We only have 1 depo so I guess they can demand what they want. We can flatten them so long as they can read the label. Might have something to do with us being 18 km from Victorian border

Albert. That could explain it. Also, I believe reimbursement from the beer brewers and the soft drink manufacturers comes from different sources hence the need to identify the can type.

For the benefit of others on the forum, South Australia uses the 10 cent deposit system whereas Victoria doesn’t.

I doubt it the depot here just throws all aluminum cans in one container i think they get paid by weight.
My theory is that the public pay the deposit to the shop who pays it to manufacturer who pay it to a deposit handler maybe government... when public return it to depot the get paid and the depot gets the funds from deposit handler
