    Woodturning tool wall panel

And while we are at the wood lathe, here is my woodturning installation.

I had very little space to install my wood lathe, and here is how I organized my small footprint woodturning shop :
(sorry for the mess, I just took the picture early in the morning, didn't take time to vacuum and tidy up ...)

There are three shelves and a magnetic white board in the center, with a neon lamp above.

On the left, the shelf for the drills, chuck, live centers. It is just thick trays, with holes to receive the tools.

On the right side, the panel has boxes, to mainly store the different grits of sand paper. Different wires are also hanging there (the thinnest is a mandolin string). It is for burning black lines on the spinning wood.

I like to keep those coat hangers with plastic clamps to hang paper sheets with plans or models that inspire me ...

In the center, there is a central shelf to put ... all the rest ... and below to hang different tools that serve frequently : chuck key, mallet, etc ...

Little Quizz : does anyone knows why I have this collection of spanners hanging in front of the wood lathe ?

Thanks for this post, Christophe. The quality of your work belies the size of the workshop. I'm always on the lookout for organizational ideas too, as I don't have a big workspace myself.

Spanners for measuring tenon sizes accurately Christophe?

I must post some piccies of some of mine - they are sharpened so I can use them as a chisel

Yes Doc, that's it, spanners are great for gauging tenon diameters, just a little over the exact diameter, so leaving room for fine adjustment.
I'm really curious to see your sharpened spanners and how you use them !
    Thanks for the comments!
    Cheers !

I'm currently 400kms away from my toy workshop, at a market (I make and sell wooden toys) but will try and post some piccies when I return in a couple of days.

It's the least I can do given how much I've learned from members here

Yes Doc, you actually have a great occupation! To me, wooden toys are the best presents that can be given (with wooden jewelery for the older ;-) )
They will last way longer than the last play station ;-)
Do you have an online page or pictures of your production ?
    Cheers !

I was curious on what purpose spanners would serve beside a woodturning lathe. Another idea to file away.

    Lightbulb

    Hi Christophe
Some piccies as promised. My tenon spanners which also are sharpened so I can actually cut the tenon to size.

Shown are (from the bottom) 7mm, 13mm, 16mm and 19mm spanners. They are ground so there is a 'top' edge and a 'bottom' edge.

They don't replace my skew or any other wood turning chisels but speed up my production of magic wands, drop spindles (for spinning wool) and so on. Basically for anything needing a small tenon so it fits into my chuck or whatever.

Sorry for the poor quality photos
    Regards

Nice Doc, thank you for the photos, you should, you must post this as a new tool !
So, if I understand well, you use it as a cutting tool on the tool rest ?
The top "finger" of the spanner is resting on top of the wood, and the bottom finger has a cutting edge and roughs out the wood until the spanner engages around the tenon, correct ?
That's great, I never saw that before, I will have to give it a try.

My process with the spanner is quite different, I use a bedan hold with right hand on the tool rest, and take my spanner with the left hand and present it at the opposite side, I take wood until the spanner engages entirely on the tenon.

Thanks, and please post your so good ideas !
    Christophe
