Diy disc sander using scrapyard find.

I found an old water pump, or actually, half of it.

    Reused it to disc sander.

Idea in this video, is to show how to make an adapter that allows one to use angle grinder backings with diy disc sander. This makes possible to change backing harder, smaller or softer if needed. Sander runs at 2800-3000rpm speed. There's a typing mistake on the video, 5000 supposed to be 3000.

Congratulations Tuomas - your Disc Sander is the Homemade Tool of the Week!

Nice re-use of a water pump, and the little rest is useful too, but the real utility here is that you can use angle grinder pads.

You deserve it, this is a great post and highlights that you don't always need big equipment. In fact I've considered doing something similar but to incorporate an ER collet on the motor shaft. This would allow the use of mounted points, wheels and Roloc type devices of various sizes. One of these days.

Btw. Here roloc pads has an insert. When its removed, there's M14 thread and it fits to 125mm angle grinder. Also to my bench grinder.

I use it with 750w Metabo. Its very small grinder and handy with roloc pads.

I made a stand for my diy disc sander. Mounting allows to turn sander to point different directions in 90 degree steps.

I also made workpiece support plate little bigger.

Its mounted with thumpscrews, so its still portable.
