The way I look at it if you can't pay a few coins to park somewhere ride the bus instead

The way I look at parking fees is why do some towns charge for parking, and some do not? There are so many other costs involved with vehicles, why do we have to also pay for parking? Obviously these fees pay for the upkeep on meters, and metermaids, meter reader vehicles etc. but many jurisdictions survive quite happily without charging for parking. I think this hack is fabulous!!

It's a disincentive for people who want to park on the side of the road. It's mostly just to keep the cars circulating to allow everybody a turn, rather than one person using that spot as a personal parking space.

That said, meter maids should be ground up for dog food. Screw those abject failures.
