    Yeah.. now i wonder why i didn't think it earlier.
    That rubber plug is inteted to protect threads in sandplasting.

    Its very elastic. I have used them for noise / fibration dampening too, under table / chair legs. Specially good in sauna or bathroom when it protects wood from the moisture too.

    Those are sold in 50 pcs packs here, so its good to have use for surplus too.

    On the late show here, but yes they are great for lots of uses and keep some around. They can be used for removing rust on chrome with a little water also and years ago I built a prototype sodium vapor lamp using them with wax seal for the tube evacuation. Didn't last long as the silver braze melted and the electrodes fell off...but the stoppers held up.
